The Quest

What is Sauternes Quest?

Think of it as your friend who discovers great wine spots you've never heard of. I live in Bordeaux, I'm obsessed with Sauternes, and I've made it my mission to taste all 140 wines by 2030. Along the way, I'm finding incredible bottles from wineries that most people never discover. Want to try them with me?

For people who just love great wines

Look, I'm not going to quiz you on vintages. If you enjoy drinking really good wine, you're my kind of person. Sauternes happens to be sweet, complex, and goes amazingly well with everything from cheese to chocolate.

I do the legwork, you get the good stuff

Living here means I actually visit these wineries, taste their wines, and chat with the people making them. I'll grab them for you and ship them your way.

The wineries you've never heard of

Sure, everyone knows Château d'Yquem. But there are dozens of smaller operations making incredible Sauternes. Many of these great bottles are not as well knowm as the famous ones but they should.

Stories and fact that make it even better

With every bottle, I'll tell you about the people, the places. But also practical tips on pairings. I'm even considering some surprises...

Meet the Guide

Hey, I'm Guelnoji

I'm a ex-product manager turned entrepreneur who got a little too interested in Sauternes wines. What started as enjoying a glass here and there turned into this weird personal challenge: taste all 140 Sauternes wines by 2030 !

Living in Bordeaux makes this whole thing possible. I can actually drive to these wineries, meet the people making the wine, and try great stuff. I am currently at #55. After 18 months of this, I realized I was finding incredible bottles that my friends would love but could barely get their hands on.

So here we are. I keep doing my wine detective work, and you get to try the best discoveries without having to become obsessed like me. Win-win.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about joining the quest for incredible Sauternes wines.

How do you pick the wines?

I taste everything first—that's the fun part it. I'm looking for wines that taste great and most of the time have good stories behind them. Maybe it's a family that's been making wine for generations, or someone doing something innovative with traditional methods. I also prioritize bottles that are harder to find internationally. There's no point in sending you something you could pick up at the local wine shop. Each shipment has 4-6 bottles with some backstory and why I picked them.

Where do you ship and how do you make sure the wine doesn't get ruined?

Right now I can ship to the US, UK, and most EU countries. I'm pretty obsessive about packaging. Each bottle gets wrapped individually in proper wine protection, and I use temperature-controlled shipping. Everything comes insured and tracked, and you have to sign for it. I work with logistics companies used by all Bordeaux wineries to ship wine around.

How often do shipments come and can I change the timing?

Not set in stone but I am considering 3 times a year. That gives me enough time to find really good stuff without rushing, and it means you're not drowning in wine boxes. Each shipment has 4-6 bottles plus my notes about what makes them special and some suggestions. If you're traveling or need to pause for a few months, just let me know. Life happens, and I'm not going to be weird about it.

What does this cost?

Still figuring out final pricing but probably $200 - $300 per shipment, including shipping. I know that sounds like a lot upfront, but here's the thing. Some of these bottles aren't always available everywhere. And for those of you who enjoy wine prices at restaurants, they cost way more individually. You're basically getting wines that would normally cost $300+ if you could even find them. Plus you get all my research and stories, and if you really love something, I can usually get you more bottles directly from the winemaker.

Want to be a founding member?

I'm looking for 10 people who want to try amazing wines they don't get usually. You'll be the first to get my discoveries, and honestly, you'll help me figure out what works best as I build this thing.

As a founding member, you get first access to really special bottles when I find them, and if you're ever in Bordeaux, I can probably arrange visits to some of the wineries. Plus you can always email me directly about the wines or if you want recommendations for something specific.
